How to photograph cars on the street for better recognition and nicer photos. Tips for car spotters and PhotoRally players.

Good car photos help recognition and look great in your collection. These tips work for PhotoRally and for general car spotting.
Angle
A three-quarter front or rear angle shows the most identifying features. Side profiles are fine but harder to recognize.
Lighting
Soft daylight is best. Avoid harsh midday sun and deep shadows. Overcast days give even, flattering light.
Composition
Fill the frame with the car. Keep it centered and avoid cutting off wheels or bumpers. A clean background helps.
Motion
If the car is moving, use a fast shutter or pan with it. For PhotoRally, a sharp, well-lit still photo recognizes best.
Respect
Do not trespass or photograph where prohibited. Be courteous to owners and other spotters.
